Domestic movie production firms are poised to establish a presence in China. One of them, IHQ, recently announced a plan to establish Sidus HD in Beijing in August in a joint effort with SK Telecom China.

The Korean pop culture boom called 'hallyu' has now become an established genre in Japan thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the Korean drama 'Winter Sonata', especially among middle aged Japanese women.

Japanese entertainment portal Oricon Style recently polled 750 women in their 30s to 50s on their favorite Korean actor and actress.

A collection of photos of up-and-coming model Han Si-yeon has been published in the Japanese hallyu magazine Hot Chili Pepper.

A person from the magazine publishing company said Han was chosen because she has been receiving numerous acting and singing offers recently. In fact, Han has earned praise from experts for her innocent yet urban image, which is quite rare for a beginning model.

A visual art exhibition was held in Suwon. The films produced by six young visual artists, Ga Eun-young, Kim Kyung-min, Kim Shi-heon, Kim Hye-ran, Jo Na-hyun and Choi Seung-joon, were projected on the walls of Hwaseong, the fortress walls built hundreds of years ago.

The Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA, CEO: Suh, Byung-Moon) announced officially on Aug. 14 on its website (http://www.kocca.kr) its final selection for this year's Star Project.

The selected projects are four animations?Oasis (Tuba Entertainment), Lamimila (Characterplan), Elephant Hunter (Heewon Entertainment), Tea Five (Kocaban)?and Bao Bao (Yeowoobee Company).

The Korean film "Happiness" starring Hwang Jeong-min and Im Soo-jeong has officially been invited to the 32nd Toronto International Film Festival.

The Toronto festival, called the 'Cannes' of North America, is the largest regional film market and one of the four major global film festivals after the Cannes, Berlin and Venice.

The musical "Great Janggeum", a stage version of hit MBC drama "Dae Jang Geum", has been upgraded after its initial release received cold responses from critics three months ago.
